Week 1 - Why Think Globally? Have Things Really Changed?

Course Objectives:

1. Students will demonstrate (explain) their conceptual understanding of the use of technology in a global education - blog posting
2. Students will demonstrate methods of utilizing and promoting digital tools for collaboration and communication with students, parents, peers, and community members and the effective use of digital tools and resources.



Book - Read Chapter 1 {We All Learn}
Discussion about syllabus and class expectations. All blog posts are due by Saturday of that week of class. So this week they would be due by Saturday, the 18th of June.

1. Create a gmail account, and take this intro survey. Intro Survey

2. Brainstorm this question on your own - How has technology changed over the years? Write the answers down...
Now take your answers and then add them to this shared google document. Open gmail (create a gmail account if you do not already have one please. ) Share your brainstorm thoughts in the shared google document. Please put your initials or name with your entry.

3. Watch this video - The World is Flat

4. Create a blog using www.blogger.com. You will use your new gmail account to log into blogger.

5. Once you have a blog created, post the blog URL to the shared google document above.

6. We learned how to use Google Reader, and I will teach you about it next week. In the mean time, look at the shared google document to find the other blogs of the students in the class.

7. You are required to blog on these two topics this week. Please read over the blogging requirements under course requirements page to find out the blogging expectations.

8. You are required to comment on 3 different blogs of students in the class.

9. Please use blogging etiquette and read over the blogging requirements in the course requirements page to determine the requirements for this.

10. Two Blog Topics for Week 1:
  • Thoughts on the 10 flatteners of Friedman - Are we living in a flat world?
  • What is the general purpose and reasoning behind incorporating global projects, education, and collaboration into the classroom?
